Dear Parents/Carers,

Shwmae Day

Another fun arrival at school today on Shwmae Day as the children came to school dressed in red and to a medley of Welsh music.  There were fun activities throughout the day and even jammie dodger biscuits as a treat! We have also received some videos of pupils and families speaking Welsh, and look forward to receiving more at MitchellR28@Hwbcymru.net.  See this video made by Year 6 for some tips:

Virtual Parents’ Consultations

These will take place for Reception to Year 6 during the week commencing 18th October.  Most of you will have made your ten-minute appointments via SchoolCloud.    Your child will be given some pieces of work to bring home before the consultations that the teachers will go through with you during your appointment. Hopefully the technology will be glitch free on the night, but any issues, please contact the school office.

PTA -  Spooks and Sparkles Day: Friday 22nd October

Next Friday is yet another dressing up day!  This time pupils and staff are invited to dress in spooky costumes, sparkly costumes, or both!  Next week a spooky story by Mrs Williams and some great Halloween science experiments with Mrs Gamble will be available for you to watch and have a go at over the half term break. The PTA will be collecting donations on the gate in the morning.

Swimming Lessons

We’re delighted to be able to accommodate sessions for the year groups that have missed swimming due to the pandemic, so swimming lessons will take place for Years 3, 4 and 5.  Lessons will take place at Splash Central in Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff every day over two weeks.  Pupils will travel by coach and the sessions will last 30 minutes.

After-school Clubs in Key Stage 2

We are pleased to announce that Football and Choir will be starting back after Half Term for Years 5 and 6.

I can confirm that:

  • Choir for Years 5 and 6 will be on Mondays in the Foundation Phase Hall with Mrs D Wilkinson
  • Football for Years 5 and 6 will be on Tuesdays on the field

We are awaiting final confirmation of days and session times from the gymnastics and multisport coaches but are anticipating that they will also be up and running  after half term and should include sessions for years 3, 4, 5 and 6.  Letters for all clubs will go out next week

Residential visits

We are in conversations with Stackpole at the moment to book residential trips for Year 5 and Year 6 for a week each in the Summer term.  More information to follow.

Parking

We have been advised that there has been some potentially dangerous parking during drop off and pick up times where children have been unable to walk safely on the pavements on the roads near to the school. Please remember to park safely, particularly at this busy time of day. Thank you

Nut Allergies

Allergies: please do not send your child(ren) into school with any food that contains nuts as we have a number of pupils and staff who have allergies.  These include muesli bars, some chocolate spreads (e.g. Nutella) and some cakes.  Please check the ingredients on food you are unsure about.  Unfortunately, if your child does bring food containing nuts into school we will not be able to let them eat it.  Thank you.
