Thursday 17th February, 2022
Dear Parents/Carers,
I’m sure that you are aware of the Red Weather Warning that has been issued by the Met Office for tomorrow (Friday 18th February). In line with most other local authorities in Wales, Cardiff Education Authority has decided to close all city schools for the day.
This means that Lakeside school site will be closed to pupils and staff on Friday 18th February. Please note that this includes Dragonflies and the school office.
Home Learning provision will be available for all pupils as follows:
Foundation Phase
Home Learning Planners are on the school website. You will need to go to the year group class page to find these (https://www.lakesideprimaryschool.co.uk/class-pages-tudalennau-dosbarth/ ). Children can also access their activities on SeeSaw and Bug Club.
Key Stage 2
Key Stage 2 teachers will be available to answer any queries or questions on the classroom stream.
Please stay safe tonight and tomorrow morning Lakeside families!
Thank you for your continued co-operation.
Best wishes,
Rachel Mitchell
Dear Parents/Carers,
Key Stage 2 swimming lessons resumed this week for Year 4, following the pandemic. We received an email on Wednesday from Splash Central, who are providing the swimming training, saying: I just wanted to send a quick email to say that the children that we have in this week for swimming are fantastic! They are well mannered, well behaved and excited to learn in the pool. They are a credit to the school. I hope that they are enjoying themselves as much as we are enjoying having them. So, well done and thank you Year 4! Year 5 swimming takes place next month and Year 3 in June.
We marked Internet Safety Day on Tuesday, with children enjoying games and activities connected to staying safe online. Activities included designing posters and writing songs, raps and sketches. South Wales Police Cybercrime officers visited school and talked to Key Stage 2 children about:

If you have not registered for Parentpay, your child will bring home the login details needed (Morning Nursery will bring their forms home on Monday). Please can you use the login details to set up an account so that you can access activities taking place in your child’s year group. Thank you.
Welsh Week Monday 28th Feb to Friday 4th March
Children are invited to dress up in Welsh costume on Tuesday 1st March, St David’s Day. Throughout the week children will be taking part in a range of Welsh activities and events. Look out for details of this year’s home task for budding chefs… More information to follow next week.
World Book Day Thursday 3rd March
This year we will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. We would like each child to bring their favourite book to school on that day. Each child will receive a £1 book token. We look forward to sharing your child’s favourite book. Thank you.
Have a good weekend.

Dear Parents/Carers,
We send good wishes to all who celebrated Chinese New Year this week. Several children wore wonderful outfits to school as part of their celebration, and we hope you all had a great time. Thank you also to all who joined in our NSPCC Number Day fundraiser today. There were some ingenious costumes again this year and so far we have raised £319 - and still counting - for this good cause. Again, it was a pleasure to see the children enjoying this whole-school event as one big family.
Year 5 Cycling
We are delighted to say that all Year 5 pupils who participated in Cycling Proficiency Training passed Level One. The general feeling among pupils is that is was fun (especially as they were cycling with friends), great to learn new skills and has given them the confidence now to cycle on the road.
We are aware that some Year 5 pupils missed their training due to illness during the past two weeks. We have asked the Cycle Proficiency Team what options might be available later in the year for pupils to catch up. We will share information with you about this as soon as we receive it.
Safer Internet Day Tuesday 8th February
Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. On Tuesday 8th February, South Wales Police Cybercrime officers will visit school to present assemblies to each year group in KS2, there will be activities around Safer Internet throughout the week, and there are competitions for the pupils to enter.
