Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had a lovely week weather-wise – it’s been a pleasure to see the children playing on the field and enjoying the sunshine. Thank you very much to all the candidates and to all of you for returning your governor ballot votes. 179 ballots were returned and the results are below:

Parent Governor Ballot results

Bryony Lewis: 142 votes

George Tackley: 71 votes

Sergey Popov: 57 votes

Geraint Jones: 63 votes

Mark Einon: 65 votes

Paul Crayford: 84 votes

The new Parent Governors are, therefore, Bryony Lewis, George Tackley and Paul Crayford. We would like to welcome them onto the Lakeside Primary School Governing Body.

Covid Update

Test, Trace, Protect Wales has issued new information about extended Covid symptoms. These are called ‘extended symptoms’. The three main symptoms remain the same (NEW, PERSISTENT COUGH, FEVER, LOSS OF TASTE/SMELL) and require a PCR test and isolation of the sufferer and household until a negative test is received. The extended symptoms do not require either the sufferer or their household to isolate, but a test is recommended to rule out Covid if any of the symptoms are present. The ‘extended symptoms’ are: FATIGUE, ACHES & PAINS, SORE THROAT, HEADACHE, RUNNY NOSE, NAUSEA, VOMITING or DIARRHOEA. If a positive test result is received the usual rules apply regarding isolation of sufferer and members of their household.

Thank you again for your vigilance around Covid and for adhering to the guidelines regarding distancing and mask-wearing – we really appreciate your efforts in joining with us to prevent transmission of the virus within the school community.

Safety in school

It’s lovely to see the sun and we love that children can play and have lessons outside when the weather is fine. It’s important, however, that children are protected from the damage that the sun can do, especially to young skins. We advise that children either cover up, use sun block or both on sunny days, therefore. Please be aware that staff are not able to apply sun cream to children. You might like to check out our Healthy Schools Sun Safe video, made by Year 6 a couple of years ago:

We have had a small number of accidental injuries caused by the swinging or throwing of metal water/drink bottles, which are heavier than multi-use plastic bottles. May we, therefore, request that where possible, only plastic multi-use bottles are sent to school with pupils. Thank you.

As the weather improves, children may need more than one bottle of water/drink to last the whole school day, as the water fountains cannot be used.

Borrowed Chromebooks

There are a (very) few Chromebooks and chargers that still haven’t been returned to school. This has an impact on pupils’ access to learning so please, if you do still have one of our Chromebooks (or a charger), can you send it back in? Many thanks.
