Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 5 pupils and staff were waved off this morning as they left on a coach for their residential weekend in Morfa Bay, Carmarthenshire. The children are VERY excited! We look forward to hearing from them over the weekend with photos and reports about the good time they’re having.

Filming begins today (Friday) for our Year 6 Leavers’ video. We’re doing a happier version of Romeo & Juliet which Year 6 recently studied. We look forward to another triumph like Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat last year and anticipate a lot of fun along the way. At some point we may ask for props we can borrow, but we don’t need camels, palm trees and sheep this time!

Orchestra auditions

Attached is audition information about the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Foundation Orchestra, which is an orchestra of primary school children (Years 2 to 5) approaching grade 1 standard to grade 8. The auditions are on Thursday 23rd or Thursday 30th June from 5:45 - 7:15pm. Rehearsals are on Thursdays 5:45 - 7:15pm.

Free school meals

Also attached is information from Cardiff Council about the phased rollout of the Welsh Government Universal provision of free school meals for primary pupils, which starts in September for Reception pupils in the first instance.

PTA News

Duck race cancelled

Sadly we were not able to obtain permission from the Council to hold this event. So hopefully next year and in the mean time onwards with the Fair.

Lakeside primary PTA summer fair and fun day Friday 15th July from 3pm

We hope everyone is getting excited with the announcement of the summer fair 3.30-5.30pm Friday 15th July. We are in the throes of planning and hope to have over 20 fun stalls, and a programme of Lakeside entertainment. Will bring you more detail over the next few weeks.

If you can help out on the day, please do get in touch, it’s fabby to be looking forward to this again after 2 years without.

Cardiff Storm Girls’ Rugby

We have been asked to share information about a new girls’ rugby club. It’s based at Rumney RFC. Training is on Thursdays at 6pm – no rugby experience needed. Please contact Head Coach Andrew Maunder for more information – 07977 763903 or email

Cardiff University Research project

We have received a request from Cardiff University’s School of Psychology to give parents information about a research project that they are undertaking. There’s a leaflet attached and here’s the information they sent us:

We are looking for 4-8 year-old children to take part in an exciting project about doll play at Cardiff University Centre for Human Developmental Science! During your visit to the lab, we will measure your child's brain activity while they play with different kinds of dolls. Each child will receive a small prize and a photo of their visit as a thank you for taking part.

If you are interested in participating and would like to hear more about the study and eligibility criteria, please sign up at or email

Best wishes for a safe and pleasant weekend,

Rachel Mitchell
