    Dear Parents / Carers,

Christmas is always an exciting time in a primary school, and although this year is different, the usual excitement and anticipation is starting to be felt here at school. Staff have enjoyed dressing up (sometimes too much!) for the Advent calendar we have made for the children, and next week we start on our… (No! I mustn’t give it away – you’ll have to wait and see!).

Though the weather is much colder than it has been, these crisp, frosty days are much more pleasant than rain – I hope that it continues into the weekend and Inset Day so that you can all enjoy some time outside, but remember to wrap up warm!

    Staff Advent Calendar

You will know by now that Christmas at Lakeside is NOT cancelled. We are planning a lovely treat for children, parents, carers and all other relatives and friends. If you haven’t seen it already, check out the Christmas is Coming trailer on the web site:

    https://lakeside-primary-school-cardiff.primarysite.media/media/christmas-is-coming

Also, from Tuesday 1st December, see the school web site for a daily Advent ‘door’ to open. There will be a new door every day up to and including December 18th, each with messages from staff right across the school.

Videos can be found by going to the school web site: lakeside-primary-school-cardiff.primarysite.media then Children drop down list then Lakeside Videos.

    PTA Christmas Cards

The Christmas cards have arrived and should be coming home with your child(ren) today. Other Christmassy items will follow soon after. Please do not send Christmas cards into school with your children this year. Thank you.

    Food Hamper Appeal

Mrs Sharon Vanstone is co-ordinating a Christmas Food Hamper Appeal. Please see the letter for details but please also note that donations must be brought in next week, by Friday 4th December. Children will be very much involved in putting the hampers together, and we want as many as possible from each class. Donations should be taken by your child to their classroom. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Please see attached letter for details.

    ***IMPORTANT: Cold weather***

As the weather gets increasingly colder, please can we remind parents and carers to ensure that children are wearing plenty of warm layers to school, as classroom windows have to be kept open during the school day.

This Monday: INSET DAY: 30th November

Please remember that this Monday (Monday 30th November) is an INSET day for staff training.

Have a safe and relaxing weekend,

    Rachel Mitchell

    Dear Parents / Carers,

    Remembrance Day

Thank you to all who bought poppies this week, and we hope you enjoyed the Year 6 Remembrance Day Assembly Video, available here, if you missed it:  https://lakeside-primary-school-cardiff.primarysite.media/media/dydd-cofio-remembrance-day-2020

    Children in Need

Thank you for all your donations and for dressing your children up as their real-life heroes.  As always, the children loved being part of this and we had some great heroes, including medics, emergency workers and even Florence Nightingale made an appearance!  Remember if you’d like to donate, please do so via ParentPay.

Anti-Bullying Week – next week from 16th November

A quick reminder that to mark Anti-Bullying week, pupils have been encouraged to wear odd socks on Monday 16th November.  We apologise for the effect this may have on your laundry!

Masks and Social Distancing on school premises

We have received a very detailed update from County on Covid Health & Safety.  This requires us to remind all parents/carers to maintain a 2m distance from other adults and school staff.  We are now also strongly requesting that everyone who comes onto school grounds wears a medical mask (a blue one).   This includes parents/carers who are collecting children from school.  These safeguards are vital to keep staff safe.  I’m always proud of how solid and proactive a team the Lakeside Family is and I know that you will join us in our efforts to keep everyone safe and the school open.

When collecting your child from Foundation Phase, please can we ask that you leave the school grounds immediately and not congregate on the playground.  Not only will this keep you safe, but will also limit the temptation for children to play on the outdoor equipment, which is wiped down between uses by different year group pods, and needs to be kept clean.

    Reminders:

    Inset Day: there will be a further inset day on Monday 30 November for staff training and development;

Travel cameras:  signage is now in place for the cameras.  Please ensure you do not drive past the school during 8.30 – 9.30am and 3-4pm.

    Diwali

Best wishes to all who are celebrating Diwali this weekend.  We hope that you have a safe and happy  time.

Thank you for all your support.

    Best wishes,

    Rachel Mitchell
