    Fri 24 Jun 2022

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 5 pupils and staff were waved off this morning as they left on a coach for their residential weekend in Morfa Bay, Carmarthenshire. The children are VERY excited! We look forward to hearing from them over the weekend with photos and reports about the good time they’re having.

Filming begins today (Friday) for our Year 6 Leavers’ video. We’re doing a happier version of Romeo & Juliet which Year 6 recently studied. We look forward to another triumph like Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat last year and anticipate a lot of fun along the way. At some point we may ask for props we can borrow, but we don’t need camels, palm trees and sheep this time!

    Orchestra auditions

Attached is audition information about the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Foundation Orchestra, which is an orchestra of primary school children (Years 2 to 5) approaching grade 1 standard to grade 8. The auditions are on Thursday 23rd or Thursday 30th June from 5:45 - 7:15pm. Rehearsals are on Thursdays 5:45 - 7:15pm.

    Free school meals

Also attached is information from Cardiff Council about the phased rollout of the Welsh Government Universal provision of free school meals for primary pupils, which starts in September for Reception pupils in the first instance.

We are looking for 4-8 year-old children to take part in an exciting project about doll play at Cardiff University Centre for Human Developmental Science! During your visit to the lab, we will measure your child's brain activity while they play with different kinds of dolls. Each child will receive a small prize and a photo of their visit as a thank you for taking part.

If you are interested in participating and would like to hear more about the study and eligibility criteria, please sign up at https://tinyurl.com/SignUpDollPlay or email TinyToTotsPlay@cardiff.ac.uk.

    Dear Parents/Carers

    Welcome back

It’s been a short week for pupils, and I hope that you were able to take advantage of the extended break. We have a busy half term ahead with more trips, sports days, the PTA Fayre and leavers’ celebrations – we think it will fly by!

Jubilee Red, White and Blue Day

We had a wonderful day on the Friday before the Half Term break when we celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

    Catering

Cardiff Catering team has informed us that the reduced menu is going to continue for the next few weeks and possibly until July. We will update you as soon as we have further information. The Parentpay menu will be adjusted accordingly.

    Holidays in term time

You may have noticed reports in the media that the Welsh Government is directing local authorities to reintroduce Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) - fines for unauthorised absences from school – from September. The issuing of fines was suspended during the pandemic. We are unable to authorise term-time holidays for pupils, so these could incur a fine once the policy is reinstated.

    Relationship, Health and Sexuality Education

Attached is an overview of what will be taught in this area during the summer term. If you have previously withheld consent for your child/ren to be present at these sessions, this will be in our records. If you are unsure and wish to withdraw consent, please contact the school office.

    After-school Clubs

All clubs resume from next Monday - Monday 13th June, 2022.

Best wishes for a pleasant weekend,
