    Dear Parents/Carers,

As cases of Covid are on the rise once again, I would like to thank all parents and carers for remaining vigilant and arranging tests for children with symptoms. Please remember that if one member of the household has symptoms, all members (including siblings) have to isolate until a test is completed with a negative result. I do appreciate this can be inconvenient for families, especially where there are working commitments and I thank you very much for your continued support in this.

Mrs Bird, our year 4 teacher, will be working from home from Monday 5th July as part of the Covid regulations for pregnant members of staff. Mrs LouLou will be covering the class for the remainder of the term.

    Arrangements for next year

I know many of you are beginning to wonder about what schools will look like next year in terms of Covid arrangements. All schools are waiting on Welsh Government advice which should be available in the next few weeks. We will let you know as soon as we are informed.

    Class Photographs

Your children will bring home their proofs this afternoon (morning nursery will have theirs on Monday). Orders will need to be placed online and if you would like them delivered to school, they must be ordered before 4 July.

    YEAR 6 PARENTS

    High School Transition

Staff from Cardiff High School are visiting Lakeside on Thursday, 1st July as part of transition arrangements with that school. Unfortunately there will be no actual visits to high schools this year due to Covid.

    Year 6 Leavers’ Performance

Recording is well under way for the Leavers’ Video and going very well – there are some excellent performers in Year 6. So far the weather has been kind. We’re heading to Egypt next week, so hoping for more sun, or it won’t be very convincing!

A huge thank you to Year 6 parents and carers for providing costumes, accessories, sheep, props, children for our night shoot and even making dashes to school with last-minute forgotten items – we couldn’t do it without you. (There may be further requests….). Thanks to those of you who lent us sheep for our Year 6 filming, it was much appreciated.

    Covid Symptoms

A reminder of the extended Covid symptoms information from Test, Trace, Protect Wales. The three main symptoms remain the same (NEW, PERSISTENT COUGH, FEVER, LOSS OF TASTE/SMELL) and require a PCR test and isolation of the sufferer and household until a negative test is received. The extended symptoms do not require either the sufferer or their household to isolate, but a test is recommended to rule out Covid if any of the symptoms are present. The ‘extended symptoms’ are: FATIGUE, ACHES & PAINS, SORE THROAT, HEADACHE, RUNNY NOSE, NAUSEA, VOMITING or DIARRHOEA. If a positive test result is received the usual rules apply regarding isolation of sufferer and members of their household.

    Term dates and Insets Days

    • The last day of term is Tuesday 20th July
    • The new school year starts again for pupils on 6th September 2021

Best wishes and have a lovely weekend,

    Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope you have all been enjoying the sun this week (and the football!). Thank you for sending your children to school suitably attired with hats and sun cream and the occasional pair of wellies as we still get the occasional shower!

HELP PLEASE!! Year 6 need many toy sheep for filming on Monday. If you can lend us a sheep, please ask your child to give them to their teachers who will get them to the film crew. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SHEEP IS LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME AND CLASS and we will make sure that they are returned to you after filming. Thank you.

    Year 6 Leavers’ Performance

Obviously, and like last summer, we won’t be able to have our usual Leavers’ Concert, with parents and carers coming into school and enjoying a staged performance by Year 6 pupils. But all is not lost! Please see here: https://lakeside-primary-school-cardiff.primarysite.media/media/what-no-leavers-concert

    General Transition arrangements

Information will follow shortly on the school’s internal transition arrangements regarding next year’s classes. This is likely to be in the form of a video or Powerpoint presentation to children (in school) and parents (on the website) rather than a day spent by pupils in the new class, due to Covid restrictions.

    Dear Parents/Carers,

A short Parentmail today, to welcome everyone back after the Half Term break. The weather has been very kind to us, especially for the remaining Sports Days and using the field at break times.

    Health and Wellbeing Fortnight

We’ve had a wonderful two weeks either side of the Half Term break, with children enjoying wellbeing and mindfulness activities and taking part in very successful Sports Days.

    Safety in school

A reminder that with sunny weather becoming more frequent (at last!) children need to come to school with sun cream already applied, bring plenty of soft drinks to last the day and wear sun hats (labelled with the child’s name, please).

We’re all awaiting any news of a lowering of Covid restrictions, though it’s hard to know when this will actually happen. After all this time, it’s difficult to stick to rules and guidelines but it’s still really important that we abide by the 2m social distancing rule and adults wear masks at all times.
